JDRF Acadiana Walk to Cure Diabetes
Lafayette, La. – June 11, 2014- More than 500 walkers representing local businesses, families, schools and other organizations are expected to participate in the JDRF annual Walk to Cure Diabetes on October 25, 2014 at Sugar Mill Pond in Youngsville, La. The Louisiana Chapter has set a fundraising goal of more than $50,000, which will help fund research toward preventing, better treating, and curing type 1 diabetes (T1D) and its complications. The Walk is expected to attract an enthusiastic crowd of all ages, driven to support a great cause while enjoying an event that includes entertainment, space walks, face painting and great food. On-site registration begins at 8 a.m. and the walk starts at 9 a.m. There is no registration fee for the Walk to Cure Diabetes; however, walkers are encouraged to fundraise for the event. All walkers who raise $100.00 will receive a tee-shirt. JDRF hosts more than 200 walks every year in the United States and dozens more take place internationally. Each year, more than 900,000 people participate. Since 1992, the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes has raised more than $1 billion for T1D research toward creating a world without diabetes. JDRF’s elite partners include Ford Motor Company, Advance Auto Parts, Marshall’s and Walgreens. Local corporate partners for the Acadiana Walk to Cure Diabetes include KLFY, The Fresh Market, Event Rental, Event Restroom, and Title Boxing Club.
