Take a tour of the galleries during 2nd Saturday ArtWalk on August 11th from 6 p.m.-9 p.m., as the Downtown comes alive with more than a dozen galleries, museums restaurants and shops offering live music, food, drink and of course, art for purchase! This ArtWalk, we welcome a new venue for local art and jewelry. Creations by Fire is home to handcrafted, fused glass and pure silver jewelry enhanced with genuine freshwater pearls and sterling silver charms and chains created by artist and owner Danielle J. Moss. Creations by Fire will also feature artwork by Giorgio Russo at the August ArtWalk for purchase. Stop in to welcome her to the neighborhood with a toast! Also this month, it's your last chance to cool off with the "To the Water..." exhibit at Lounge Gallery. Also, don't miss the original "Legheads" from 1987 by artist Don Leblanc at Gallery 549. These creations of the artist's immediate family were based on tracings of the heads and legs of his immediate family and fabricated with galvanized wire, wool and sisal rope. AcA is opening up their space to a little amateur hour this ArtWalk with postcards contributed by amateur and professional artists alike! The show will debut during August ArtWalk and run through October 6th. While you're taking your ArtWalk, make noise for a good cause! Sounds of Peace is 'Creating Sustainable Futures' for women in Lofa County, Liberia. And they are using the calming sounds of wind chimes to do it! The chimes will be sent to Liberia in late August and will be planted on a six acre land grant that will be given to the group during a visit in November. Around the chimes, 'A Place for Women' will be built as a destination place of healing, peace and reconciliation for neighboring villages and countries of Africa. And you can help! Come to ring the chimes! Add your energy and intentions to contribute to peace in the hearts of all and to the world as a whole. Come to create personalized peace flags which will be reminders to those who feel forgotten that someone cares for them. The chimes will be at Cajun Spice Gallery during August ArtWalk. In addition to the expo and galleries, businesses in the district showing works for ArtWalk include Artmosphere, The Greenroom, The Ballet Academie, Bizarre Ink, Frederick's Hair Studio, Marc Isaac, Parish Ink, Recycled Cycles of Acadiana and Americas Coffee House. Also, don't forget your discount on all art sold in the Downtown Lafayette Cultural District - original works are exempt from state sales tax.
