Latin Poetry Night will join the tradition of English-Spanish events in Lafayette. At Latin Poetry Night, the Latin community will find a safe space in which stories, poems, and creative performances can be shared, and find a warm, receptive audience. Participants and attendees do not need to be bilingual, and members of the community are encouraged to participate on the open mic in the language that they prefer. Participants are also encouraged to experiment with English and Spanish, challenging themselves and the audience to find new ways to make these two languages interact. Lyrically Inclined, led by Alex “PoeticSoul” Johnson, is an organization that hosts spoken word events in Lafayette, at places like the Acadiana Center for the Arts, the Festival of Words, Cité des Arts, and Black Café. Recent events have included rallies against domestic violence, benefitting flood relief, and the Black Out Appreciation Party.
