Tipitina's Instruments A Comin Event

On Monday, APRIL 29, Tipitina’s music club will host the Foundation’s twelfth annual INSTRUMENTS A COMIN’ benefit concert and silent auction. As in previous years, every dollar raised by the benefit concert and silent auction goes towards purchasing new, high-quality musical instruments for New Orleans area music programs. High School marching bands to be gifted in 2013 will be announced after this year’s benefit. The goal of the Instruments A Comin' program is to increase youth participation in the Greater New Orleans area school music programs by providing new instruments. This ongoing program now in its twelfth year and has purchased more than $2.5 million dollars worth of instruments for over 4,000 students in more than 75 schools. “We are proud of the opportunity we have to support our local New Orleans area band directors with essential resources for their music programs,” said Mary von Kurnatowski,Co-founder and Chair of the Tipitina’s Foundation. “Our Foundation will continue to push the importance and need for music in public and charter schools to benefit the community as a whole.” Upon selecting a recipient school, the Tipitina's Foundation works closely with each band director, who is ultimately responsible for the success and improvement of the school's music program. Instruments are purchased by the Foundation at a deeply discounted rate from New Orleans Music Exchange, a local musical instrument vendor, and Jupiter Band Instruments. The discounted cost of each instrument allows the Tipitina's Foundation to leverage its purchase to increase the total number of instruments donated. “Last year’s Battle of the Bands was such an exciting and successful event for Instruments A Comin’ that we hope to top it with our Marching Band Blowout this year,” said Bethany Paulsen, Managing Director of Tipitina’s Foundation.
