Through IPAL, and various other outlets, Katelyn Gulotta has brought life to some of most beloved and notorious characters from theater and performance history. But in September, she will be taking the stage in a very different type of performance. She will be taking the role of none other than…herself.
On September 20, Main Street New Iberia, Iberia Preservation Alliance and IPAL will present An Evening at the Essanee featuring Katelyn Gulotta. She will entertain the audience with songs from the 40s and 50s along with live piano accompaniment provided by Genie Paille. The set list selection was an easy one for Gulotta.
“I have a little bit of an old soul,” she confesses. “That’s my favorite music and my favorite era. As a singer, I’ve been exposed to a lot of different genres and styles, and the 40s and 50s is the one that speaks to me the most.”
This won’t be Gulotta’s first time performing music from this era, but it will be her first time performing it as herself. Through her career, she has been fortunate to perform at the World War II museum in New Orleans. She portrayed Jayne Mansfield in an original Bob Hope Show, written by the museum’s production team. She also played Marilyn Monroe at several of their events.
“This music takes you out of reality and makes you wish you could have been involved in that era,” Gulotta says. “The audience will be completely immersed in the music of the 40s and the 50s. I know a lot of the people who attend these events are people who got to experience the era first hand, so it’s great to be able to take them back for just one night.”
Additionally, there will be surprise guests joining Gulotta during the show. Hors d’oeuvres and wine will begin to be served at 5:30 p.m. and the performance will start at 7 p.m. There will be a unique opportunity for guests to bid on a chance to win special reserved seating for eight under a canopy in the Shadows Garden for Beneath the Balconies. Tickets for An Evening at the Essanee are $50 and will be available at the Shadows Visitor Center. All ticket proceeds benefit Beneath the Balconies. For event information, call 337-369-6446.
