WES CRAVEN The Man and his Nightmares By John Wooley, Wiley $16.95

I suppose if we could pick the day we die, Wes Craven would have preferred to wait a month. The creator of Freddy Krueger, his razor-fingered villain in “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” died Aug. 30 just a month before the month of Halloween, which, I think, he’d have found more appropriate. That movie was followed by “Scream” another chilling franchise he left briefly to direct Meryl Streep in syrupy movie, “Music of the Heart.”

MY CONFERENCE CAN BEAT YOUR CONFERENCE By Paul Finebaum & Gene Wojciechowski, Harper $15.99

Paul “Mouth of the South” Finebaum is a familiar name to fan of ESPN radio. He says whatever occurs to him and most of the time, he knows what he’s talking about. He calls LSU’s Les Miles “eccentric” (who would argue?), but says “How can you not love a coach who wins national championships and likes eating stadium grass?”
