This fantastic app has even been called the “Wikipedia of interior and exterior design” by CNN. Like a virtual scrapbook, Houzz allows you to browse more than a million high-resolution photos from interior designers, contractors, architects and other design pros, then “clip” and save the ones that catch your eye. Interested in a kitchen remodel (yes, this app has everything, including the kitchen sink – dozens of them, in fact) or the perfect knobs for that bathroom vanity? Simply click on the room you’re interested in and start exploring! You can search by decorating style (contemporary, eclectic, modern or traditional, to name a few), metro area, room or particular item you’re searching for. One of the best apps we’ve seen to help you turn your home into your dream home. Cost: Free.
This app takes a practical approach to gardening, and includes such handy features as an area calculator, pond size calculator, list of nearby garden suppliers or community gardens, planting information, and calculators for plant quantity, bulk sod or mulch, or fertilizer, taking the guesswork out of potentially difficult measurements and formulas. Want to know how much broccoli to plant for a family of four? Garden Buddy’s database of planting information, including photos, makes this calculation a snap. Enter the plant name, and the app tells you how many rows to plant, how long to make the rows, how far apart to space rows and plants and how many days until you can harvest your veggies. Cost: $2.99.
