PROPER DOCTORING By David Mendel / Introduction by Jerome Groopman, New York Review Books, $16.95
If you like your doctor give him this book.
If you don’t like your doctor give him this book.
Written as being a “Book for Patients and their doctors,”
It’s mostly about how doctors think about and deal with patients, some of whom could drive a doc to drink or another line of work. After reading this book, your doctor appointment will be much more profitable for you as you learn how to ask the right questions to get the right answers.
THE STORY OF THE HUMAN BODY By Daniel E. Lieberman, Pantheon, $27.95
This is a marvelous story that should interest all of us humans; the story of how we evolved over millions of years to what we are today. The good news is that we are living longer, the bad news is that the longer we live the more we are subject to disease, especially diabetes, heart attacks and strokes. Lieberman not only traces our evolutionary history but also offers suggestions on eliminating these diseases or, if we can’t, at least learn to live with them.
