The wait is over. After ten years, the Jeanerette Museum will open a time capsule that was placed on its grounds when the museum hosted an exhibit on the American Future. The original exhibit was developed by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibit Service and was part of the Museum on Main Street program.
The museum, located at 500 E. Main Street, Jeanerette, is celebrating Yesterday's Tomorrows with the capsule opening at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9.
“We are excited about unearthing the time capsule that was placed at the museum. We are very interested in finding out what the time capsule contains and how it has survived over the last ten years,” said Andre Rosamond, chairman of the museum board.
The events of the day will also feature the introduction of the Jeanerette Museum’s new exhibit, Yesterday’s Tomorrows: Uncovering the Past, comprised of details of Jeanerette history along with students vision of Jeanerette’s future.
Audiences will also take a musical journey though American music as the Gal Holiday band plays during the event.
The events during the day will be free of charge and open to all ages. For more information on these events contact the Jeanerette Museum at 337-276-4408 from Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., visit the museum online at www.jeanerettemuseum.com, find the museum on Facebook or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
