THE JOY OF THE GOSPEL, $13.95, USCCB Communications

After just one year, Francis I has become the most prolific writer and written about Pontiff in many years. Not only Catholics, but people of many beliefs (or none) have taken his words to heart, notably in his teachings to the multitudes in St. Peter’s Square which are contained in “Simple Wisdom,” each beginning with his trademarked “Good Morning.” In “The Joy Of The Gospel,” Pope Francis laments “Christians whose lives seem like Lent without Easter” and offers Gospels that show ways to find joy in living while exhorting readers to spread the word, which he does in plain, everyday language. He encourages youth, especially, to evangelize as well as lay people who he calls “the vast majority of the People of God.”
