Facebook for iPhone®

This month, we’re reviewing a couple of apps for users who are brand-new to the iPhone. And while it may seem like a no-brainer to the experienced iPhone user, we think that the app for the popular social networking site would be a favorite for those of you just getting started on the iPhone. The Facebook for iPhone app lets you do just about anything you can do on the website, including uploading photos (individually or to an album), chatting with friends, sending messages or checking in to your favorite restaurant. Cost: Free.

Instagram®
Like Facebook, Instagram is easily one of the most popular sites/apps out there, and we think new iPhone users would enjoy it, too. One of our favorite apps, Instagram lets users share photos or short videos with “followers” or with the whole world (you can adjust your privacy settings), then post them to Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, Tumblr or other social networking sites. Users also can follow their friends or other users. Learn how to take better pictures by looking at others’ posts. Or if you’re interested in a particular breed of dog, you can find users who have shared pictures of that breed. One of our favorite posters gives us our “Awwww” moment every day with adorable pictures of her napping dog and toddler. Cost: Free.
