Thanking The Blue Line
● By Aimee Cormier
New Iberia Optimist Club members, law enforcement officers, attorney and community leaders joined together in May to recognize two local law men who excel at the job they do—stopping criminals and making the streets safer for us all. The men in blue, which includes police officers, crime investigators and State Troopers are recognized nationally during Police Week, and each year by the NIOC at its “Respect The Law” banquet.
Recognized as an outstanding law enforcement officer, Executive Lt. Gary Louviere with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office says he was reminded of why he chose to be a public servant. It was revealed by Sheriff Louis Ackal during the banquet that Louviere’s department, the Bureau of Investigations which handles the most difficult cases, is known for making an arrest within 12-24 hours.
Louisiana State Trooper Eric Regan, a second generation law enforcement officer, stands out as one of 64 troopers in Troop I assigned to uphold the law and protect Louisiana’s citizenry. Of the 64 troopers assigned to Troop I, Trooper Regan is distinguished for making almost 13 percent of the troop’s criminal arrests.
